The 1968 Apparition of the Virgin Mary at her Church in Zeitoun
On the evening of the Tuesday 2 April 1968 (24 Paramhat 1684 AM), during the Papacy of
Pope Kyrillos VI,
the Virgin Mary appeared in various forms of celestial light at her Church in Zeitoun, Cairo.
The following details make the apparition distinct:
T
he Virgin appeared in various forms of celestial light that the crowds saw very clearly. Accompanying the virgin was a variety of celestial apparitions such as illuminated doves, clouds of light, and intense billows of incense whose source was unknown.
Among the first ones to witness the apparition were Muslim workers at the bus garage across the street from the church.
The apparition brought about many miracles that were witnessed by and occurred to Christians and non-Christians alike. Competent doctors who conducted medical tests on those who were miraculously healed confirmed the veracity of these miracles.
Those who witnessed the apparition on a nightly basis reached into the tens of thousands. People of all ethnicities and religions saw the Virgin with their own eyes and raised their hands to her asking for her intercession by means of songs of praise, jubilation, and tears.
On some nights the apparition lasted for a few hours non-stop.
The successive nightly apparition of the Virgin lasted for more than two yars in the manner previously unknown to the east or the west.
Forty years after this great apparition thousands of those living in the Zeitoun area and outside of it continue to testify to what they observed regarding the apparition and the miracles that happened to them. The church in Zeitoun is currently collecting these testimonials that they may be available to anyone who would like to peruse them.
Bless the Lord, o my soul, and forget not all his
benefits (psalm 103:2)
Angel Gabriel came to our mother Saint Mary to tell
her about having a child, who is Jesus the son of God, she answered the angel:
"I am the Lord's servant". And then the angel left her. Saint Mary did not care
about , troubles she was going to have, during her pregnancy, the pain
when she give birth, or what would Joseph think about her when he knew
about her pregnancy ... and so on .If Saint Mary ,our mother, kept
thinking about those things, she would certainly have a big trouble and
lose her peace . But our mother Saint Mary cared only about what
great thing she was going to have that the Lord will take a body
from her and she will carry him for 9 months and then raise him until he grows
up like a real man. So she was very happy and her soul was pleased and she
said "my soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my
savior ... for the Mighty one has done great things for me holy is his name. realizing the great things that God makes for us
every day make our hearts happy and our souls pleased and also make us
thank God but if we think about problems we will not be in peace and
be angry . The grateful of Saint Mary and realizing the great
things that God made for her was a real virtue that many people don't realize.
For example, the Hebrew who God changed the sea into land for them to walk on
land and go to the other side of the sea while pharaoh and his people drowned
in the sea, soon they blamed God for having some troubles on
their way.
Dear ,sisters and brothers ... I wish you all learn from Saint Mary ,our
mother, how to think about great things that God make for us and not to think
about troubles which make us forget those great things from God . We should
thank and glorify our Lord all the time
