The 1968 Apparition of the Virgin Mary at her Church in Zeitoun
On the evening of the Tuesday 2 April 1968 (24 Paramhat 1684 AM), during the Papacy of
Pope Kyrillos VI,
the Virgin Mary appeared in various forms of celestial light at her Church in Zeitoun, Cairo.
The following details make the apparition distinct:
T
he Virgin appeared in various forms of celestial light that the crowds saw very clearly. Accompanying the virgin was a variety of celestial apparitions such as illuminated doves, clouds of light, and intense billows of incense whose source was unknown.
Among the first ones to witness the apparition were Muslim workers at the bus garage across the street from the church.
The apparition brought about many miracles that were witnessed by and occurred to Christians and non-Christians alike. Competent doctors who conducted medical tests on those who were miraculously healed confirmed the veracity of these miracles.
Those who witnessed the apparition on a nightly basis reached into the tens of thousands. People of all ethnicities and religions saw the Virgin with their own eyes and raised their hands to her asking for her intercession by means of songs of praise, jubilation, and tears.
On some nights the apparition lasted for a few hours non-stop.
The successive nightly apparition of the Virgin lasted for more than two yars in the manner previously unknown to the east or the west.
Forty years after this great apparition thousands of those living in the Zeitoun area and outside of it continue to testify to what they observed regarding the apparition and the miracles that happened to them. The church in Zeitoun is currently collecting these testimonials that they may be available to anyone who would like to peruse them.
And Jesus answered and said to him, "Simon, I have something to say to you"...Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman?..."Therefore I say to you, her sins, [which are] many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, [the same] loves little" (luke7:40-49)
The sinner woman went to Simon the Pharisee's house and started to weep at Jesus' feet and wet His feet with her tears then she wiped them with her hair and poured perfume on them .But the Pharisee who had invited Jesus looked at the woman in a bad way after he judged her with a cruel judge and said to himself " she is a sinner " then he started to doubt Jesus telling himself "why the teacher did not know her?" "Does he really know who she is?" "she is a sinner...sinner " But God who knows what's inside man's heart wanted to teach everyone- who judges others cruelly - a lesson ,so He let that Pharisee knew the faith of this woman that she loved God so much because she knew that He can forgive her . So she deserved that God says to her "your sins are forgiven".That Pharisee uncovered himself when Jesus told him "I have something to tell you" telling everyone how cruel he was. So we need to learn how to love God so much to make Him forgive our many sins. Also we have to be careful not to judge others that cruel way or we will hear God says to us "I have something to tell you" which means we will never hear Him say to us "your sins are forgiven"
